CITY OF COVINGTON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GOALS JULY 2017
- Continue efforts with Alleghany County to identify marketable industrial properties and pursue joint economic development opportunities, through the city-county revenue sharing agreement
- Support expansion of WestRock and Ingevity, with the objectives of ensuring long-term economic prosperity and competitiveness of existing industry, enhancing the industrial tax base, and encouraging additional employment opportunities that will benefit the community
- Support the recruitment of businesses that may serve as vendors/suppliers to WestRock or Ingevity
- Support the City’s drone initiative, including the conversion of the former Edgemont School into a drone center that includes space for drone-related business start-up, research and development
- Strengthen the downtown business district through such efforts as business recruitment, infrastructure improvements, and marketing efforts
